The Creative Leadership Forum

The Future of Creativity, Innovation, and Leadership

Leadership must be as creative and borderless as the challenges it faces.

Leaders and entrepreneurs today operate in environments shaped by technological transformation, artificial intelligence, geopolitical instability, cultural complexity, and changing organizational realities. Established models and practices remain important, but they do not always provide sufficient answers when the situation itself is changing.

The challenge is therefore not simply to apply leadership more effectively. It is increasingly to rethink how situations are understood, question existing assumptions, and create viable paths for action when established strategic or operational models reach their limits.

This is where Creative Leadership becomes essential.

Why Creative Leadership

Creative Leadership brings creativity into the practice of leadership itself.

It enables leaders to reframe challenges, explore alternatives, work with uncertainty, experiment with new possibilities, and turn emerging ideas into meaningful action. It is relevant not only to creative industries or innovation teams, but wherever leaders are confronted with situations for which there is no standard solution.

But Creative Leadership cannot itself remain static.

Ideas about leadership and creativity have developed across different disciplines, industries, cultures, and institutional settings. Some have proved remarkably resilient. Others may no longer fit the realities leaders face today.

Creative Leadership therefore needs to be understood as an evolving field of thought and practice. A field that continuously examines its assumptions, learns from different contexts, and develops new approaches as the world around it changes.

The Creative Leadership Forum was created to provide a space for that exploration.

Three Areas of Exploration

Our current thinking is organized around three interconnected areas. They provide a starting point for inquiry rather than a predetermined program.

Rethinking Creative Leadership

  • What does Creative Leadership mean today, and how must it evolve?

  • This area examines how Creative Leadership has developed, how it is practiced across industries and institutions, and where existing ideas may need to be challenged or renewed.

  • It explores how organizational cultures, professional disciplines, and different institutional logics influence how leaders think, collaborate, create, and make decisions.

Leadership Across Cultures

  • Leadership and creativity are also shaped by culture.

  • Different cultural contexts have developed distinct approaches to authority, collaboration, experimentation, learning, risk, and problem-solving. These differences can offer important perspectives on how leadership evolves in an interconnected world.

  • The Forum explores what leaders can learn across cultural boundaries, where culturally rooted practices create strengths or limitations, and how Creative Leadership can become a bridge for learning between different ways of thinking and acting.

Creative Leadership Methods and Tools

  • Creative Leadership becomes meaningful when it affects practice.

  • This area explores the methods, capabilities, behaviors, and emerging technologies that help leaders translate creative thinking into action.

  • It connects cognitive and emotional capacities with practical approaches to experimentation, innovation, collaboration, execution, and human and AI interaction.

  • The question is how Creative Leadership can become part of everyday leadership practice and create tangible impact.

The Role of the Creative Leadership Forum

The Creative Leadership Forum brings together academics, practitioners, executives, entrepreneurs, educators, and other contributors to explore these questions across disciplines, cultures, sectors, and professional contexts.

Its purpose is not simply to present established knowledge.

The Forum creates a space where different ideas, assumptions, practices, research, and experiences can encounter one another. It connects theory with practice, global perspectives with local realities, reflection with experimentation, and established knowledge with emerging approaches.

Like Creative Leadership itself, the Forum is designed to evolve.

Its content will develop through contributions, conversations, questions, and perspectives from the people taking part.

A Forum That Begins Before the Main Event

The Creative Leadership Forum does not begin with a finished agenda.

Before the three-day Forum takes place, invited thinkers and practitioners will contribute ideas, questions, research, reflections, and provocations to the developing conversation.

An initial free online gathering will bring together a small group of selected participants to examine what Creative Leadership needs to address today and which questions deserve deeper exploration.

A wider audience will be able to follow this conversation.

The purpose is not to validate a program that has already been decided. It is to help shape the program itself.

The insights emerging from this first phase will inform the themes and questions of the later Creative Leadership Forum, where the exploration continues through dialogue, collaborative work, and practical experimentation. This follows the foundation process already envisioned for the Forum, in which early contributions and an online convening help define the agenda for the main event.

More Than a Single Event

The Creative Leadership Forum is conceived as an ongoing discussion rather than a one-time conference.

The events provide moments of concentrated exchange, but the work continues through published contributions, emerging ideas, research, methods, practical experiments, and an expanding international community.

CreativeLeadershipForum.com forms part of this process. It is not only where the Forum is announced. It is where ideas leading into the Forum can be shared, where contributors can participate in the conversation, and where insights emerging from the events can continue to develop afterwards.

Over time, the Forum aims to build a growing body of knowledge around Creative Leadership and connect people interested in advancing the field across business, academia, public institutions, culture, and society.

An Initiative of the Creative Leadership Hub

The Creative Leadership Forum is an initiative of the Creative Leadership Hub, founded by David Slocum and Akin Duyar.

The Creative Leadership Hub brings together research, practice, education, and international perspectives to advance the understanding and practice of Creative Leadership.

Through conversations, publications, learning formats, and events, the Hub creates opportunities for academics and practitioners to exchange perspectives, question established assumptions, and explore emerging approaches to leadership, creativity, and innovation.

The Creative Leadership Forum extends this work into a broader international event.

Its ambition is to create a place where the future of Creative Leadership is not simply presented, but explored and shaped together.
